Mrs. Ethel Bernice Longdon was born September 9, 1927 to James A. Bishop and Elisabeth McAdams of Selmer, Tennessee.
Ethel Longdon leaves to mourn her death 5 children: Kenneth Longdon, William Longdon III of Atlanta, GA, Gladys (Johnny) Hood, Linda Byndom, & Gail Longdon of Caruthersville, MO. Also , survives one sister, Gladys Jones of Indianapolis, IN. She also leaves to cherish her loving memory many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and as dear as a daughter, Minister Renae Porter and her husband Wayne Porter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Longdon, her parents James and Elisabeth, 5 brothers, Clyde Bishop, Fred Bishop Earl Bishop, Grady Bishop and James A. Bishop, Jr. and two sisters, Cleo Prather and Bertie Lee Crawley.
She graduated from Lane College at Jackson, Tennessee with a degree in Elementary Education. She married William Brent Longdon, her college sweetheart on October 15, 1948. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle, patient, driven parent, who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
She was an accomplished soloist. She traveled to several churches in the area, performing at concerts. She was a member of the AKA Sorority, Eastern Stars and Macedonia M.B. Church where she was Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, WMU Member, and Choir Member. She worked for New Madrid School District as a Special Education Teacher. She loved both family and her students.
Mrs. Longdon died peacefully at the age of 90 at Southgate Living Center on May 24, 2018. The family would like to thank the nursing home staff and hospital staff for their efforts, care, and dedication.
