Bernard James Moore, Sr. , affectionately known as BJ & Big Brother, was born in Hayti, Missouri on August 22, 1940 to Eskew and Martha Moore.
He attended Elementary school at North Pemiscot and graduated high school from Central High School in Hayti in 1959. As a child he attended Clover Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Portageville, MO.
He enlisted in the United Navy, December 11, 1959 and served three tour of duty. He was finally discharged June 28, 1970; having served 11 years and 20 days. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), National Defense Service Medal and two Good Conduct Medals. He earned an Associate Degree in Food Service Management from Essex Community College in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was united in marriage to Ruthie Frazier February 17, 1963 and to this union two children were born. He had a passion for telling jokes, cooking and traveling the world.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Jeanetta Brown of St. Louis, MO, Terri Winters of Norfolk, VA and a son, Bernard James Moore, Jr. of Hayti, MO; thirteen grandchildren, two special cousins, Pinkie Dixon of Caruthersville, MO and Carolyn Walker of Portageville, MO; specials friends, Fannie West, Martha Driver, Maxine Smith, Helen Bennett, Evelana Fane, Ella Coleman and Freddie Sanders, and a host of other relatives and friends.
