Cedric Fields

Cedric Koseygin Fields Sr., fondly known as “Big Baby” by his friends, made his debut into this world on September 30, 1970. He was born at the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti, MO, to his loving mother Margaret Fields and the late Tommy Lee Covington. Cedric spent his early years in Caruthersville hanging out mostly with his brothers. His sisters, who loved Cedric dearly, were no longer there to give him and his brothers baths and line them up on the couch. The Fields Boys had a very tight knit relationship, looking out for one another, and allowing no one to mess with the other. Cedric would join his brothers and friends watching wrestling on Saturday mornings and engaging in all kinds of recreational activities - football, baseball, softball, wrestling, playing marbles, racing, and doing whatever else you can imagine. Those were truly some fun times - running around and getting into stuff with their buddies throughout East Haven. Most of us would be surprised to know that whenever they had their little impromptu races in the Circle, Cedric was the fastest runner, beating everybody in the 40 - yard dash. You didn't even think about asking for a repeat because Cedric wasn’t having it - he won and it was done. Cedric loved tinkering with all kinds of things, trying to figure out how they worked. Interestingly though, once he pulled them apart, they seemingly were never put back together again.

Cedric was a man of faith, rooted in the Pentecostal Power Church from an early age, and has always trusted in God’s provision. Cedric received his years of education in the Caruthersville Public School System. He was a good student and supported many of the sports teams and school activities. Cedric graduated from Caruthersville High School in 1988. Upon graduation, Cedric experimented with different career field opportunities until he secured a fulfilling position as a long distance truck driver. He enjoyed this newly found career that allowed him to travel across the country receiving and delivering goods to make peoples’ lives better. Cedric often talked about the various states he visited, their particular beauty, landscapes, and special landmarks, and even about how different the people were in different regions of the country. During his down time, you knew where you could generally find Cedric on most evenings… Yes, hanging out at Ed’s playing dominoes with his special select circle of friends primarily Lisa, Willie “PeeWee”, Ed, and a few others. Lisa and Ricky, Willie, and Ed were not just friends, they were an
integral part of Cedric’s life. They were always there for whatever Cedric needed, through thick and then, until the very end. Cedric had little tolerance for being around a lot of different people and preferred his own special select group of friends. He cherished his alone time. He did not get into your business and he didn’t expect you to be in his.

Cedric fell in love and married his sweetheart Mary Jones, on June 16, 1995. This union included Mary’s three sons all of whom Cedric cared for as his own. In 1996, Cedric and Mary welcomed a bouncing baby boy, Cedric Jr. (Scutta) and a few years later in 2001 a precious baby girl Mariesha. Cedric was really excited about his children and wanted the world for them. They were his pride and joy. The family resided in Hayti, MO as the children grew up and attended the Hayti Public School System. There were lots of good times. Though they enjoyed many wonderful years together, Cedric and Mary’s marriage ended in divorce, but all is not lost because they became and remained the best of friends, being very supportive of each other no matter what. They co-parented their children with genuine love and care. Cedric was so proud of Cedric Jr., and his outstanding, almost 10-year Army career and his baby girl Mariesha as she is making her way in life being the best mother she can be for her boys.

Cedric continued traveling across the country until he began to experience health challenges. Eventually, these health issues would impact his ability to continue working full time. Cedric would find odd jobs to do a couple of days a week to occupy some of his time. But then, one of God’s most amazing blessings happened, Cedric was blessed with his first grandson - Kycen, one of the happiest days in his life; then a couple of years later a second grandson - Isaiah Jr., and then the last grandson - Baby Josiah who has been with us for almost six months. Those boys were now his heart, his pride, and his joy. You hear me. In conversations with his sisters, that is all Cedric would talk about. They brought so much joy to his spirit. Cedric would talk at length about all he wanted to do with them and teach them, how to fish, mow lawns, repair things, help them with their academics, teach them responsibility and respect, you name it. He was able to do some of it and planned to do so much more with them.

Over these last few years, Cedric’s health began a steady decline. He fought a good fight and peacefully departed this earthly realm on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Cedric was
preceded in death by his father Tommy Lee Covington; grandmothers Irene Fields and Sadie Covington; grandfather Lenwood Fields Sr., sister Kizzy Johnson and special sister Stephanie Leatherwood.

Cedric leaves to cherish his loving memory his mother Margaret Fields of Caruthersville, MO; uncle Lenwood Fields Jr., of Van Buren Township, MI ; ex-wife and dedicated friend Mary Fields of Cape Girardeau, MO; son, Cedric Koseygin Fields Jr., of Fort Hood, TX; daughter Mariesha Irene Fields of Caruthersville, MO; other sons Pedro Borders, Standriqué Matlock, and Cortai Jones; most precious grandsons Kycen Rollings Fields, Isaiah Robinson Jr., and Josiah Robinson; sisters Marquita Fields of Elgin, IL; Phyllis (Clinton) Fields Davis of Mitchellville, MD; Sadie Covington of Caruthersville, MO; and special sister Tiffany Carter of Jefferson City, MO; brothers Christopher (Cynthia) Fields of Carbondale, IL; Kitrell Fields of Minneapolis, MN; Scott Fields of Caruthersville, MO; Randall (LaWanda) Fields of Cape Girardeau, MO; Reginald (Veronica) Fields of Jefferson City, MO; and his most dearest and special friends who are considered family Lisa Carter and Ricky Bryant, Edward Isom, and Willie Grady, all of Caruthersville, MO, and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
