Cora Lee Moss Yancy, the eldest daughter of the late Adler and Leona Moss was born October 25, 1936 in Hernando, Mississippi.
She confessed her faith in Christ at the age of 10 years at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Hernando, Mississippi. She relocated with her parents, six brothers and sisters in 1951 to Caruthersville, Missouri. She worked the cotton fields in the Pemiscot County area to help support her family while attending Washington High School.
She joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in 1955 and remained a faithful member until her death. In 1958 she was united in marriage to Rufus Yancy.
She worked various jobs in Caruthersville, but never gave up on her dream of having her own business. While working at Brown Shoe Factory she decided to act on her dream with nothing more than her faith in GOD, herself, and the support of her family. She quit her job at Brown Shoe ad enrolled at the Academy of Beauty School in Kennett, Missouri. After completing her requirements for her certificate, she applied for licensure and received it in October 1977. Operating out of her home, entirely by word of mouth, she built a loyal customer base. In 1986, she built Cora's Beauty Shop at 306 East 12th Street. The business continued to grow until her illness.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Rufus Yancy; three sisters, two brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
