Ned and Margaret Pickens in St. Louis, MO.
Deon played football, basketball, participated in wrestling, and served as an assistant coach at Hayti High School. He also coached several of his son's basketball teams, and volunteered at the fire department. But his true love was racing cars and he was good at what he did. To prove it, he had a collection of over 80 trophies. Apart from his hobbies he was widely known for his many years of service at Greer's.
Deon was preceded in death by his loving mother, Margaret Ree Gatewood-Pickens; a sister, Linda Pickens, and a niece, Shameka Ponder.
Deon had two beautiful children, Symone D. Pickens and Deon T. Pickens, during his marriage with Stephanie Edmond.
He also leaves behind his father, Elder Ned Pickens, Jr.; one brother, Lorenzo Pickens; four sisters: Patricia A. Walls, Sophia Diane (Charles) Burnett, Debra A. Pickens, and Melissa S. Muhammad; one great uncle, Pastor Roosevelt Martin; six uncles; eleven aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
