Welcome to the memorial page for

Ida Lee (Smith) Lewis

October 27, 1939 ~ October 5, 2014 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Ida Lee Lewis, was born October 27, 1939 in Drew, MS to Laura Hunter.  She spent her childhood in Drew, MS attending “The Little Red School House” there.  Her family lived in several cities in Mississippi, later moving to Missouri.

In 1968, she married John L. Lewis in Peoria, IL.  Though they had no children, Ida became a mother to many nephews and nieces who lived with her.  At one time she had a total of 13 people living in her home.  Her door was always open to whomever.

The church was a key part of her life.  She attended the local Seventh Day Adventist Church in Peoria, IL.  The Bible was her favorite topic as she led many studies in her home.  Her home often had many religious doctrine group studies.  Ida was always open to learn and teach.

Ida had a strong commitment to working in the church.  She participated in many fundraising projects for various churches in her life.  They include the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Holy Trinity, and Star of Hope Baptist Church in Peoria, IL; Mount Carmel Missionary Church and Oasis Worship Center in Caruthersville, MO.  Her priority was building the Kingdom of Jesus the Christ on earth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Lewis.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one sister, Annie B. Gray; one brother, Robert Hunter both of Caruthersville, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.
