Isadore (Gordon) Rainey

January 30, 1909 ~ November 7, 2014 (age 105) 105 Years Old


Isadore “Gordon” Rainey, “Mother Rainey”, was born Saturday, January 30, 1909 in Vimville, Mississippi to Berry and Mary Gordon. She was the youngest of 12 children, one sister and ten brothers all preceded her in death.

In 1925, she was united in marriage to Elder Curtis McIntosh, after 35 years of marriage he passed away in 1960.  In 1961, she married Elder Charles Rainey, after five years of marriage he became ill and passed away. She was not blessed with children of her own, but helped raise many who crossed her path.

In 1925 she was also introduced to Holiness.  For ten years, Elder McIntosh was pastor and she was First Lady of both Caruthersville and Wardell, Missouri Churches of God in Christ.

Mother Rainey was a woman of Truth, Wisdom and Faith.  Her life was the mirror that reflected the image of Christ.  She was a member of the Church of God in Christ for 89 years, where she served as Church Mother.  She was a licensed Missionary in the Church of God in Christ for seventy-eight years.  She served in many capacities: a Counselor for the Saint as well as the community, a Pastor’s wife, Sunday School Teacher, Prayer and Band Teacher, Home and Foreign Mission, Pastor’s Care Committee, Jurisdictional Sunday School Field Representative, Finance Board of the Jurisdiction, and the Victory Temple C.O.G.I.C. Trustee Board.  She served the Eastern Missouri and Western Illinois Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ for 54 years and the Southeast Missouri Third Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ for 34 years. She worked in every women's department in the Church.  She testified to being saved, sanctified, baptized and filled with the precious Holy Ghost.

She leaves to mourn a number of nieces. A special niece Linda Kay (R.B.) Thomas of Kennett, Missouri.  A spiritually adopted son, Administrative Assistant Timothy (Inez) Welch of Chicago, IL; a Daughter in Zion, mother Virgie Mae(Limmie D.) Pulliam, a true companion, Sister Lessie Pulliam., a beloved friend, Margaret Williams, trusted confidant, Mother Willie Mae Pulliam all of Kennett, MO;  Ada Jean(Ret. Judge Wilburn) Crooks of Chicago, IL and Herbert Lee Welch of Springfield, IL. She helped to raise all of the children that grew up at Kennett/Victory Temple C.O.G.I.C.
