James Earl McThomas was born on August 1, 1948 in Grenada, MS to the union of Ella Jane Sykes and Dante Kimble. He attended elementary school in Caruthersville, MO; high school in Wardell, MO; and college in Cape Girardeau, MO.
James was a very humorous and intelligent man who stressed the importance of education. He was affectionately known as “Mac or McThomas” by friends and “Bro” by family members. James was a true Lakers fan and he loved fishing. God blessed James with the gift of gab, which has allowed him to be a positive influence in many people’s lives.
In 1969, he united in marriage to Lillie Hall. To this union four sons were born. In 1985, he married Darlene Ross. To this union one daughter was born.
His career here on earth was mainly in Law Enforcement/Advocacy. After a serious accident and several strokes, he was forced to go on disability.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Ella Jane and James Reed; grandmother Clyde Carter Sykes; and two sons, Greg and Eric McThomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Darlene Ross McThomas; sons: Marcel J. (Tasha) McThomas, Ronnie (Debbie) McThomas, and Kevis Bess; daughter, LaKeisha McGee; daughter-in-law, Rachel McThomas; seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two grandchildren he raised as his own (Jason and Jordan, who he affectionately called “his boys”); one uncle, Leroy Sykes; two God-sons, Cyris A. Davis and Willie J. Hill; and a host of cousins and friends.
Hey Old Man,
I can’t believe this day has come. You meant the world to me. You were my grandfather, father, mentor, and friend. I love you until we see each other again. Rest, sweet man.
