Jeany Bobo Young

Jeany Bobo Young was born to loving parents Sam Bobo and Georgia Haynes on March 29, 1928, in Tunica, Mississippi. In 1954, she met and later married the late C.H. Young and built a good life with him until his passing in 1989. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and spent over 50 years as a member of 12th Street Missionary Baptist Church in Caruthersville, MO. She worked diligently in various ministries in the church and served as one of the church mothers until 2009 when her health began to fail.

In 1958, Ms. Jeany, as she was affectionately known throughout the community, bought into her husband’s lifelong vision of stepping out on faith and opening a neighborhood grocery store in Caruthersville. Physically relocated twice, the store would serve as a beacon to the east side and endure 51 years of service and outreach.  The store allowed both Mr. and Mrs. Young to inspire, uplift, motivate, encourage and empower over three generations of both children and adults in the community they were proud to call home.

Four members of the Young clan have preceded her in death — Henry Young in 1967, Joanne Washington in 2005, and Dashawn Young and Eric Johnson, Jr. in 2008.

Ms. Jeany leaves to mourn her son Daryl Young (wife-Sharon), Carletta Yancy (husband –Eric), Pequita Jordan, and C.H. Young, Jr. In addition, there are 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members left to cherish her memory, life and legacy.
