Melvin Cobb, was born July 1, 1957, in Caruthersville, Missouri to Willie and Lauvenia Cobb. He departed this life Thursday February 24, 2017 at Southgate Living Center in Caruthersville, Missouri.
He was a graduate of Caruthersville High School. He later met and married the love of his life Gladys Johnson.
As he ventured into fatherhood he faithfully worked at Brown Shoe Company and Cooperman’s Furniture Store. In his pastime he formed a group called (HRBM) for teens to keep them off the streets. He was known by all as D.J. Melly-Mel. He loved music, singing, playing his guitar, eating cooking or grilling, telling childhood stories, swimming, basketball, football, playing with remote control helicopter, last by not least ”his dog Gizmo” and family being with his grandchildren.
In the year of 1999, God made a call on his life; he got baptized under the leadership of the late Elder C.M. Clayborn, Mother Vera Clayborn church family in Hayti, MO. He served as Deacon, Supt. Of Sunday School, Minister caring God’s word. He enjoyed preaching and giving God praise.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gladys Johnson Cobb; five sons, Eric Johnson (Latoya) of Caruthersville, MO, Lavan Johnson (Keesha) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Melvin Johnson of Alton, IL, Clintrick Johnson (Myeshia) of Hayti, MO, Zachary Johnson (Latoya) and Godson, Terry Jake Jones (Carletta); one daughter, Melody C. Johnson (Alfonzo) of Caruthersville, MO; four brothers, Roosevelt Cobb (Audera) of Atlanta, GA, Billy Joe Cobb (Rosie), Tommy Lee Cobb (Shirley) both of Caruthersville, MO; one sister, Michelle Hawthorne (Dennis) of Decatur, IL; sister-in-laws, Amanda Shaw (David), Catherine Jones, Patricia Arnold (Tony) all of Caruthersville, MO; brothers-in-law, June Arthur Meyers of Chicago, IL, Levell Johnson, Bobby Lynn Johnson, Tony Meyers and Calvin Jones all of Caruthersville, MO; special nieces, Renee, Candy, Paula, Sandra and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins friends and other relatives.
