Ruth Hayes Obituary

Rutha Mae Hayes affectionally known as "Big Momma" age 78 of Caruthersville, Missouri formerly of Chicago, Illinois passed away in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on February 6, 2021.

Rutha Mae was born on June 20, 1942 in Rolling Hills, Mississippi to her mother Annie Ross Shaw and father, Lee Otha Shaw, where she was raised with her eleven brothers and sisters.  Rutha Mae spent her younger years in Chicago before moving to Caruthersville.  She was baptized in Jesus Name into Pentecostal Power Organization under the then leadership of Bishop Jordan.  She would go on under the leadership of Elder Toombs, Elder Turner, Bishop Lane and finally Bishop Cobb.

She married Moses Hayes and they later welcomed many sons and daughters into their home.  She became a nurse and moved back to Chicago, Illinois  to care for her ailing mother. She then returned to Caruthersville, Missouri after she retired.  "Big Momma" as she was so lovingly called was well known for her big heart and her love for God.  She had a love for people and would welcome anyone who needed help into her home.  Her home or wherever she was, was a place of love, laughter plenty food and joy.  She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

She leaves to mourn her passing six children four sons and two daughters, Malcolm (Bobbie) Hayes of Caruthersville, Missouri, Christopher Wade of Caruthersville, Missouri, Tyrone (Trenea) Hayes of Sikeston, Missouri, Serena Wade of Atlanta, Georgia, Raquan Hayes of Chicago, Illinois, Roslyn Hayes of Atlanta, Georgia, a special grandson, (Kaden) and one step daughter, Nettie McBride. She is predeceased by two children Della Wade and Zaliea Wade.  She leaves behind one brother, Ronald (Rosemary) Shaw of Caruthersville, Missouri, and two sisters, Gayvelle Shaw of Chicago, Illinois, Julia Martin of Dallas, Texas a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, god children, friends and a special family friend Misty Thompson.  

She is predeceased by five brothers, John, Joe, Moses, Lee, Jr. and Robert and three sisters, Sally, Doris and Diane also her husband Moses Hayes and several step children, Moses Hayes, Jr., W.L. Hayes, Julie Price Hayes, Ruby Hayes Wade, Luvenia Hayes Larry, Lillie B. Hayes Lewis and JM Hayes.
