Tommie Lee Allen

March 28, 1942 ~ January 21, 2014 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Tommie L. Allen was born on March 28, 1942 to the late Andrew and Classie Allen. He was the fifth of six children.

He gave his life to Christ at a young age and enjoyed sharing God's Word with all that he could.

Tommie attended and graduated from Hayti Central High. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Chicago, IL and enlisted in the Army. After serving in the Army, Tommie decided to pursue a career in law. He went to college and earned his B.A. at The University of Toledo (Toledo, OH) in 1969. He continued his education by going on to Howard University in Washington, D.C. continuing to study law and it was there that he earned a J.D. degree in 1973. With these degrees in hand, he opened his own private practice and practiced law for 21 years in Ohio. He held memberships with the Toledo Bar Association, an Honor Society, and was a member and attorney for the Minority Contractors Association in Toledo, OH. From 1973 to 1977, Tommie was the Treasurer of Allen Bros. Trucking Company, Inc. Upon moving back to Missouri, Tommie became a Public Defender in Caruthersville, MO until he retired. Also, during this time, he was the Pastor of Central Baptist Church in Hayti Heights, MO. He was active in his community and was a faithful member of the 5th Sunday Fellowship meetings that sponsors the Clarence Wade Scholarship Award. He served vigorously and faithfully in many other community activities until he was called to glory to meet his Heavenly Father.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Lee Bank and one brother, Odell Allen.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Bernice Moore of Garden City, MI; two brothers, Vernon (Elizabeth) Allen of Toledo, OH and Howard (Elnora) Allen of Hayti, MO; a host of nieces, nephews, and his loving church family.
