Reverend Walter Scott "Scottie Stevenson was born August 19, 1968, to the late Reverend James W. Stevenson and Rosetta Nash in Gary, Indiana. He attended Banneker Elementary, Tolleston Middle School and Roosevelt High School, where he played varsity football in high school. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching football.
After high school graduation, Scottie joined the US Navy in 1988 where he served his country faithfully as as a Medical Corpsman alongside the US Marines. He was stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois, Okinawa, Japan, Philippines and also served on a US Air Craft Carrier.
Scottie was a member of New Shiloh M.B. Church, Gary, Indiana for serveral years. He served faithfully as a member of the junior deacons and choir until he accepted his calling into the ministry. After servimng many years at New Shiloh, he moved his membership to New Macedonia M.B. Church to support his father's calling as pastor until he left for the US Navy.
Walter made his heavenly transition on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the age of 54. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend James and Sister Rosetta Stevenson; brothers, James Lawrence Stevenson and Ronald Wendell Stevenson; sisters, Barbara Jean Stevenson-Swift, Carol Stevenson-Perry and Cynthia Stevenson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Rayna Hawkins; brother, Craig Stevenson of New Mexico; sisters, Patricia Mack of Gary, Indiana, Joyce Stevenson of Memphis, Tennessee, and Brenda Jo Stevenson-Boley of Texas; nieces and nephews, Lisa, JamesII, Kenya,Joseph, Jordan, Roderick, Dustin, Zachary, Belinda, Samuel, Solomon, Chenear, Craig Jr., Robert and Willie, Church members, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
